Pope Francis has called for a two-week truce in the war zone in Ukraine, as well as in the new Russian regions from April 9, during the celebration of Easter and Bright Easter Weeks by Catholics and Orthodox , reports TASS with reference to Leonid Sevastyanov , president of the World Union of Old Believers.
“The pope has just informed me that he… proposes that all hostilities in the special military operation zone in Ukraine cease for two weeks – for the Catholic and Orthodox Easter weeks,” Sevastyanov said.
He specified that the cessation of hospitality and the declaration of a truce should take place from this Sunday within two weeks.
The Catholic Church will celebrate Easter on April 9, while the Orthodox Christians will celebrate it two weeks later on April 16.
Earlier, Pope Francis had expressed a desire to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate his plan for a peaceful settlement of the confrontation between Russia and the West in Europe.
