OTTAWA – The federal telecommunications regulator says it has made selections that it hopes will present better competitors within the cellular wi-fi market.
The CRTC says it’s giving cellular digital community operators which resell wi-fi communications service in additional rural areas entry to the wi-fi networks of Canada’s largest telecom suppliers.
The regulator says the modifications will assist make sure that the calls and information classes of MVNO subscribers don’t drop once they transfer between protection zones and that MVNO entry is obtainable on present and future wi-fi networks, together with 5G.
The CRTC says it’s denying a number of provisions that may make the MVNO entry service extra restrictive and is stopping any provisions that may limit regional suppliers from reselling their wholesale entry to different MVNOs.
Bell Mobility, Rogers, Telus and SaskTel should now start accepting requests from regional wi-fi carriers for entry to their networks and enter negotiations with regional wi-fi suppliers to agree on wholesale MVNO charges.
The CRTC established a coverage final 12 months to assist MVNOs to be launched within the Canadian market.
