Camp Couchiching and OELC (Ontario Educational Leadership Centre) are proud to announce a new partnership that will benefit both organizations and thousands of youth.
For 2023, OELC will be offering its world-leading youth leadership development programs for intermediate and secondary students at Camp Couchiching. Camp Couchiching will continue to offer their popular traditional day and overnight camp programs during July and early August, while continuing to host spring and fall groups.
OELC will run both their popular midweek school groups in the spring and fall, as well as their overnight leadership development programs for students from grades 6 to 8 from Aug. 17 to Sept. 1, 2023.
Camp Couchiching and OELC both have missions that align with empowering youth, innovative programming, and positive community change. By working together, they can ensure that young people have sustainable access to new and innovative leadership development programming.
OELC is already well known for hosting youth leadership development programs for over 100,000 students from across Ontario for the last 75 years. Since 1946, tens of thousands of young people have also grown through their participation in Camp Couchiching’s exceptional day, overnight and community programming on the shores of Lake Couchiching in Longford Mills.
“For OELC, this is an exciting opportunity to partner with an organization like Camp Couchiching who shares our belief that innovative and relevant leadership development for young people is one of the most important things we can do to support youth and their skills for the future, ” says Jeff Benner, president of OELC’s board of directors.
“Camp Couchiching is excited about working with OELC. Their proven programs have been recognized by schools and families from across Ontario as critical to the development of student leaders and educational staff. Camp Couchiching has a long history of meaningful partnerships. The school groups and students hosted by OELC at Camp Couchiching will complement the core seasonal programming that we’ve run for over 75 years.” — Vanessa Shemrau, president of Camp Couchiching’s board of directors
All OELC school and summer programs will be run by OELC’s highly experienced staff and facilitators, and will include many of the specialized activity options available at Camp Couchiching. Camp Couchiching will also provide support facilities and food services.
Both OELC and Camp Couchiching believe this new partnership will be a win-win for the organizations and that it will prioritize and benefit all youth involved in 2023.
